  1. Apple IIe Card Operating Software Version 2.0

  3. In this folder you will find two disk files that constitute the Apple IIe Card
  4. Operating Software Upgrade Package - the Apple IIe Card Startup disk and the
  5. Apple IIe Card Installer disk.
  6.  
  7. This new software will support features that were not available in the previous
  8. Apple IIe Card software (version 1.0), such as Apple IIe printing to the Apple
  9. StyleWriter and Apple Personal LaserWriters, ProDOS partitioning on the hard
  10. drive, and Apple II networking capability.  The new stand-alone software
  11. upgrade package (including manuals) will be available on August 15, 1991 from
  12. your Apple Authorized dealer (p/n  M1222LL/A).

  14. This software update is available at no charge to existing K-12 Apple IIe card
  15. owners.  Institutional owners of Apple IIe cards are eligible to receive this
  16. software update and installation, on-site, free of charge.  Individual owners
  17. of IIe cards will be able to receive the software free of charge by bringing in
  18. their Macintosh LCs (with IIe card installed) for software installation.  NOTE:
  19. Manuals are not included in this update, but can be purchased separately if
  20. desired or needed.

  22. If you currently are using the Apple IIe card and do not require the new
  23. features included in the version 2.0 upgrade, we suggest that you continue to
  24. use the original software that came with your card.  It will continue to
  25. provide you with excellent performance.

  27. As with version 1.0, this new version is compatible with System Software 6.0.7
  28. and 6.0.8, but is NOT RECOMMENDED for use with System Software 7.0.

  30. Users have several choices when using an Apple IIe card with version 2.0
  31. software.
  32.  
  33. 1) If you wish to use System 7.0 on your hard drive, you should cold boot from
  34. the 6.0.8 based “IIe Startup” floppy disk which runs System 6.0.8 and the IIe
  35. card software.  This allows you to keep System 7.0 on your hard drive.  If the
  36. IIe card is run under System 7.0, ProDOS disk partitioning will be unavailable.
  37. It is, however, NOT RECOMMENDED that the IIe card software be run under System
  38. 7.0.

  40. 2) If you want to use ProDOS partitioning on your hard drive, you must be
  41. running under System 6.0.7 or 6.0.8.

  43. 3)  If you want to use the Apple IIe card software on an AppleShare network,
  44. you must run 6.0.7 or 6.0.8 on the AppleShare Server and the user workstation.
  45. In order to set up the Apple IIe network, you will need to purchase AppleShare
  46. File and Print Server software version 2.0.1.  When configuring the option
  47. panel, we recommend you use slot one for printing and slot 7 for networking.
  48. If you want to print to a workstation card you will need Chooser.II.
  49. Chooser.II is available in the software package that ships with the AppleShare
  50. IIe Workstation Card software package.

  52. Apple IIe cards purchased after August 15, 1991 will be shipping with the new
  53. software.
